CMCFA 2003 Convention

The 2003 Mid-Atlantic Region 17th Annual Convention was held at the Wyndham Mount Laurel in Mt. Laurel, NJ from January 31st to February 2nd 2003.

The Chesapeake Marine Fabricators Association, Inc. is an organization of fabricators who design and manufacture fabric products for the marine industry as well as the suppliers who support them. Once a year, the Association runs the largest Marine Fabricators convention in the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast Region.

At this annual event, we conduct seminars, workshops, and lectures concerning our trade, as well as pointers on how to run a small business. At this year's convention, members had the opportunity to:

  • Exchange ideas, ask questions, find solutions and share information with other industry professionals.

  • Acquire both new business and technical skills.

  • Stay current with the latest techniques, fabrics, supplies and tools of the trade.

  • Visit with the major suppliers of our industry at one location, to learn first-hand about new products and obtain new sample books and literature.

  • Gain some new information to help not only in the upcoming spring season but also in the very next week!

  • Have some fun and enjoy some entertainment, too!

From the desk of the President—

CMCFA Officers and Board Members would like to invite all Canvas Fabricators and Suppliers to join us at our 17th annual weekend convention. In addition to a very informative learning experience, we have a lot of fun along the way!

Also, the Association is celebrating its 20th anniversary. This is of great importance as we are the oldest and largest independent Marine Canvas Fabricators Association in the United States. I have been involved from the start, back in 1983. It was quite a bumpy ride for the first three years. Sometimes there were more suppliers than fabricators at a meeting. But, with dedication and a growing group of Fabricators along with a lot of help and support from Suppliers, we have grown to the successful organization that we are today.

The vocation of marine canvas and upholstery can be very rewarding. At the end of the day, there is a feeling of satisfaction and achievement from knowing you have crafted a complimentary addition to a customer’s boat that will make his or her boating experience more enjoyable. Come help us celebrate our 20th Anniversary!

- Ty Hancock, President
